PHILANTHROPY

Delta Phi Lambda’s National Philanthropy is to strive to advocate for Osteoporosis Awareness. Our philanthropy has been important because it encourages everyone, not just those of Asian descent, to get the right amount of exercise, Calcium, and Vitamin D to help prevent Osteoporosis from occurring later in their lives. We are partnered with American Bone Health to support everyone and further advocate for better bone health for the greater good.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when bone mineral density and bone mass, or the quality of the bone structure decreases or changes over time, which can lead to fractures and broken bones. Osteoporosis is a "silent" disease since most people typically never have any symptoms and they may not even know they have Osteoporosis until they break a bone. This silent bone disease is very common among Asian women because about ninety percent of Asians may be lactose intolerant, therefore obtaining calcium from dairy products can be problematic.
